Course Objectives:
The course aims to ensure delegates have an appropriate understanding of the key health and safety principals and best practice needed to help equip them for a safer world of work.
Course Contents
On completion of the course, learners will have an appreciation and awareness of the following key topics:

- Be Aware of How Human Factors can Impact upon Health & Safety
- Understand Why Perception and Behaviours are Important
- Be Aware of the General Legal Framework (Criminal and Civil) and the Function of Law Enforcers
- Be Aware of the Consequences of Failure on the Individual, Task and Organisation
- Understand the Concepts of Hazard, Risk and Risk Control
- Be Aware of Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work (Including Permits)
- Be Aware of the Hierarchy of Risk Control (ERICPD Model)
- Understand the Need for PPE as ‘Last Resort’
- Be Familiar with Safety Signage
- Understand a Range of Common Workplace Hazards and their Typical Risk Controls:
- Work at height
- Excavations
- Confined space entry
- Work equipment
- Asbestos
- Site transport
- Electricity and ‘lock out – tag out’
- Lifting operations
- Hazardous substances
- Noise and vibration
- Understand Why Incidents/Accidents Happen (Causal Factors)
- Understand the Need to Report and Investigate Incidents/Accidents
